AFI 10 top 10

Last week the American Film Institute put out their top 10 list of American movies for Westerns, Animated, Sports, Romantic-Comedies, Sci Fi, Mystery, Gangster, Courtroom, Epic and Fantasy movies.
Here are a few thoughts I had when I looked over the list.

I really think Unforgiven(4) should have been higher. I think it's a better movie than Shane(3) and High Noon(2). I don't think I have a problem with The Searchers(1). It's about so much more than a "Western".

I think I agree with #1 animated movie, Snow White. Beauty and the Beast should at least be # 3 or #4.

Sports, no Rudy no Slap Shot but they have Jerry Maguire and Caddyshack. Really!

I don't think I'm a good judge for Romantic comedies. City Lights is a great movie though. Don't you think Jerry Maguire should be in this category?

As far as Sci Fi (2001 A Space Odyssey was #1 and Star Wars: Episode IV was #2) I think I personally would have switched the first two, but I don't have a problem with the way they are now. Star Wars really wasn't acted well, even though it is a great movie. I am not a huge fan of E.T. On this list I would put it # 9 ahead of Back to the Future, by the way I don't think I would put Back to the Future on the list at all.

Mystery, Gangster and Courtroom I'm good with those.

Epic, Schindlers list ,for me , has to be #1 . It not only is a great "epic" It's probably in my top 3 movies of all time, American or not.

Fantasy: How did Groundhog day get anywhere near a top 10 for anything?

Well there is my opinion. What do you think? Check out all ten lists. http://www.afi.com/10top10/

As time goes by...

That was then...

My baby is growing up so fast! Thursday Shelby Joy graduated from Jr High, she is now officially a freshman in High School. Yet, this is how I see her every day. The sweet 5 year old who crawled into our bed in the middle of the night (every night) and pretended she was sleep walking. We always thought we named her appropriately: Shelby, after my Mom's maiden name and Joy, because we knew she would be such a Joy to our lives! She lives up to her name. She has grown into quite a young lady, telling us how she wants to leave her friends and church family behind and move to AZ with us, because she knows God is calling her there. She is 13. She wants to attend a Christian College (probably Hope or Biola) and after graduation come back to AZ and work with the kids on the reservation. Who could be prouder or filled with more Joy than Robert and I? Perhaps God:)
I use to tease my mom for calling me her baby, when I was 30, now I know why. Shelby will always be my baby! Congrats Shelby!!

Happy Fathers Day!

What Fathers Day means to me...

My Daddy playing on the floor with me and my large collection of Breyer horses (I use to throw down the steps to see if they would survive......they didn't). My Daddy tucking me in at night and kissing me, and my 10 favorite stuffed animals in bed with me, good night. My Dad in the audience for every one of my high school plays. My Dad walking me down the aisle at my wedding. My Dad talking like Donald Duck to everyone of my kids, who loved it! My Dad crying with me when my grandparents both passed away. My Dad standing up at Christmas Eve service accepting Christ!

My husband, the father of my children, holding Wayne up in the air over his head when Wayne threw up on him! Then rocking him to sleep that night. Hearing each one of our children say "Daddy" for the first time and seeing his eyes well up. Wrestling with Kathryn, (I now think she can take him) from the time she was born. Carrying Shelby on his shoulders almost everywhere we went. The tender and sweet way he kisses each one of them and tells them how much he loves them even today when they are teenagers. Crying through their hurts and growing pains. Running around Disneyland with them just like when he was a kid. Teaching them about Jesus and His love for us. Baptizing our children.

Our Heavenly Father, the ultimate father to all of us. Who gave the amazing sacrifice of His Son, so that we might be with Him forever.

1John 3:1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

How blessed am I?? Liz

I love Mike!

I wake up on Sunday as I hear my phone. It was that sound that said "Mike needs something." He was having a GO! Teams Kenya meeting. So I naturally thought I forgot something he needed, I did. Sorry Diane. Anyway his text was about a Bible study he wanted Liz and I to speak to about our impending move to Arizona. He had mentioned it two weeks earlier. So naturally he text me at 8:30 a.m. The study begins at 10:00 a.m. We can make it.
We get there and Mike introduces us. It's time to talk. What am I going to say? I didn't prepare for this. Then it hits me. I have to, I mean, I get to speak to Ann St. Church of Christ the first Sunday we are in Australia, in a few weeks. I'll use what I have been working on.
I was able to tell 20 or so people why we are going to AZ.
At the end of our time I really felt it went great. Liz and Mike said it went great. I think I'm happy Mike didn't tell me sooner. Then I would have stressed about what I was going to talk about. This way it just sort of flows. Thanks Mike.
By the way when we get to Australia I could end up talking for quite a while. Let me just apologize now.
I know this is kind of a rambling story, but that is how I am feeling right now.

Thanks
Robert

Anna Anna Banana Fee Fi Fo Fanna Anna

This is a great week already. Why? GOD IS GOOD.
There are two women I know who became foster parents about two years ago. They are foster parents through an organization called Child Share. (Child Share seeks to find quality foster and adoptive homes for abused, abandoned and neglected children by working through local faith communities.)
Well, one of these women, we'll call her Joell had a little girl at her house, Anna, and this past weekend she was placed with a family trying to adopt her. WOW! Anna has parents. Yup, Anna has parents. God is good.

27 days 'till Australia. WOO HOO!
